Luis Enrique's dilemma over whether to renew his Barcelona contract

The coach will decide at the end of the season if he wants to extend his deal at Camp Nou or not, and no sooner than that

Luis Enrique does not want a soap opera this season and for this, he announced in the summer that he would not decide his future until the end of spring. His contract ends and he understands the club wants to renew his deal, but after a cycle of three years at the head of the first team he does not want his personal case to interfere with the sporting objectives. To date the two parties have practically not spoke about it although the coach knows what the aim of the club is. Lucho will think about the decision with the people close to him. He will communicate it when the titles are practically decided and with the conviction that large contracts are nothing good for either side. The option he picks may be to renew for just one season, something the club would be fine with.

At Barcelona there is tranquility over his future because the relations are fluid. The Blaugrana coach works in a professional structure set to his measure and he feels valued. The dilemma is not centred on economic terms, or sporting ones, but on the convenience or not of extending a successful cycle weighing up the personal wear and tear. It’s evident that he is in charge of a top level group, with so much talent and that the team has potential to grow and spend money n players, but his position also obviously runs managers down inside and out.

At Barcelona they have no rush although nerves will start from March onwards. What they know is that Lucho prefers to negotiate short contracts, which gives him the option to stick around for one extra season. He has always made clear that short contracts help both sides feel more comfortable.
