Luis Enrique's Barça suffer first defeat of the season against PSG

Barcelona's Champions League campaign suffered an early setback as they were beaten 3-2 by Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night.

Luis Enrique's side had travelled to France unbeaten in all competitions and yet to concede a goal, but they will travel home knowing that, as the new Barça boss has been keen to stress, there is still plenty of work to be done.

Lionel Messi's wonderfully worked team goal brought Barça level after David Luiz had given the home side a 10th minute lead. Goals from Marco Verratti and Blaise Matuidi then afforded PSG a two-goal cusion with over half an hour to play.

Barça pulled one back through Neymar, but despite a frantic finish, they couldn't complete the comeback.

A trip to take on the French champions was always going to be Barça's toughest test of the season so far - even without the injured duo of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva.

Gerard Pique started on the bench, with Javier Mascherano and Jeremy Mathieu preferred in the middle of Luis Enrique's back four, but it was a defender they couldn't get their hands on earlier this year who popped up to open the scoring.

Lucas Moura had already sent in one dangerous set piece and Barça were not looking like a team who had kept seven straight clean sheets. The Brazilian's second delivery was plucked from the air by Luiz, who held off Mascherano and delightfully rippled the net with his second touch.

Barça's response, though, was as immediate as it was dazzling. Following a series of passes, Neymar rolled the ball into Messi, who played a one-touch one-two with Andres Iniesta before clinically finishing in the bottom corner.

Edinson Cavani almost produced a quick-fire response of his own, firing over from outside the box, but Barça then appeared to take control of the game.

However despite having the ball, they were struggling to break down a PSG side who have won just three of their eight matches in Ligue 1 this season. And seconds after Messi and Neymar nearly combined to send Barça ahead, the hosts did reestablish the lead.

Luis Enqique would have been furious to see all 5'4" of Verratti able to head home from a corner at the far post.

Things would get worse before they got better for the Catalans. They were looking vulnerable every time they were forced to defend. Cavani had already been denied by a last-gasp Mascherano tackle in the second half when PSG stretched their lead to two goals.

It came from a Gregory van der Wiel cross, with Jordi Alba nowhere, and the quality of the delivery meant it would have been disrespectful for Matuidi not to stretch his side's advantage.

In Neymar and Messi, though, Barça have players capable of keeping them in games even when the rest of the team are not at the races. And within minutes of Matuidi's goal, Neymar hauled his side back to within one.

Alves' cross was too high for Messi, but Neymar took a touch and delicately stroked the ball into the far corner.

Javier Pastore then went on a meandering run which lacked a finish, before Barcelona took control of the final half hour. Sandro, Munir and Xavi - who took the record for Champions League appearances (143) in the process - were all thrown on as Luis Enrique looked to leave the French capital with at least a point.

Wasteful finishing from Andres Iniesta preluded a frantic ending, which saw one-time Barça target Marquinhos produce a stunning block on a goal-bound Alba effort and Munir clip the outside of the post from outside of the area.

All the while, PSG remained dangerous on the break in search of fourth. They didn't need it in the end, though, and Sandro's shot across the face of the goal in stoppage time would be Barça's last chance.
