The Barça boss was ecstatic with his side's last gasp win on a tricky afternoon at Mestalla

Barcelona manager Luis Enrique spoke about his side's late win against Valencia in a press conference on Saturday.

"How we’ve won says a lot about the character and the spirit of this team, despite the adversities throughout the game, such as Iniesta’s injury, which is sad news," he explained. "But the character is there. The team believe in each other and are desperate to win, but the objective is to do so without suffering so much."

On the game, the Asturian commented that it was a "Valencia-Barça true to the tradition of this fixture, with tension, intensity and with both teams with chances to win the game right up until the end.

"We started well and we were able to seize the advantage by half time, but then they came back to equalise. At the beginning of the second half we had a crazy five minutes.

"We had some luck getting back to 2-2 which gets us back into the game. We lost control a bit at the end, but in the end the team proved that what they’re about."

On Andres Iniesta's injury, he said "we saw immediately that the player was injured and there was no yellow card. We’ll see how long he’s out for tomorrow, but yes, it will be a while. It’s a serious injury."

Finally, he referred to the game's decisive moment, Lionel Messi's winning penalty: "Our best penalty taker Messi, even though there were a lot of doubts last season, in front of Diego Alves, who appears enormous in front of the goal.

"In the end he’s taken it to the other side which we were thinking and he’s scored, that’s only done by players with a personality like Messi."
