Luis Enrique says Sporting Gijon did not deserve to lose 5-0 against Barça

Luis Enrique was satisfied with the result against Sporting Gijon, although he feels the five-goal defeat did not tell the whole story.

Barcelona were 2-0 up at half-time but were made to suffer in the second half before eventually adding three late goals after Sporting were reduced to 10 men.

“The final result was deceptive,” Luis Enrique admitted after the game.

“It looks easy, but that was not the case. Not at all. The game was not over until [Loro’s] red card.

“It is always difficult to win away from home given the dangers which come with it, especially at Sporting, who play with a lot of intensity.

“We were able to create chances and score a couple of goals before the break, but we struggled to get involved in the play in the second half.”

The Barca boss was happy with how his players found space out wide after encountering congestion through the middle.

He added: “Against teams that withdraw, you can find space through the middle, but it’s easier out wide.

“We spoke about that and we were really good in all those circumstances.”
