"Messi is the complete interpretation of everything football is"

Luis Enrique lauded Lionel Messi after his hat-trick in the 4-0 win over Manchester City. 

It was the second time Pep Guardiola's returned to Barcelona and the second time Messi's been his chief destroyer. 

"If you can expect anything from Messi, this is it," Luis Enrique said when asked if he was surprised Messi had returned so well from a groin injury. 

"It doesn’t matter how long he’s been out, games he’s missed. 

"Those that are lucky enough to see him train each day continue to be surprised, not only for his goals but how he plays pressing game, helps the team. He’s a reference, no doubt about that. 

"It’s clear that he is the best player in the world. 

"He is the complete interpretation of everything football is. It would be naive to doubt Leo. 

"He’s once again been decisive. He was present in all the game’s important moments. And he even made them nervous when they gifted him the first goal! 

"It’s what happens when you give a centimetre to our most dangerous player."

Messi has now scored six goals in two Champions League games this season.
