Luis Enrique gets Arda Turan running

He left Atletico because of Cholo Simeone's demands, but this season Lucho's asking the same

Turkish footballer Arda Turan has become a key player for Luis Enrique. The player has made a 180 degree turn and has become a key part of his manager's pans.

Arda has only missed one of Barcelona's games this season. There are several factors which explain the change in Turan and the sweet moment he's going through. But more than a change of roles in the team or of routines in his personal life, there's one piece of performance data which is especially surprising.

He was the Barça player who ran the most kilometres during the win against Deportivo La Coruna on Saturday. According to Marca, the midfielder ran 10.87km in his position as a right wing back, with no right-back in the matchday squad.

In fact, throughout the season, he's the player who has ran the second most kilometres in the team, with 67.39km. Only Gerard Pique (68.47km) has run more than him.

The number takes on relevance when contextualised with the reason he decided to leave Atletico Madrid over one year ago. The player had complained about the physcial demands put on the players by coach Diego Simeone.

"I'm leaving because here you run a lot," he said. Therefore, in his second season at Barça, it's curious the amount of work he's doing in Luis Enrique's side.
