Luis Enrique on Atletico Madrid: It won't be a key game

The Barcelona coach is happy to have had a free midweek for the first time in 2017 to prepare

Barcelona manager Luis Enrique said that Sunday's game against Atletico Madrid is not key for the title race.

“No, it is not a key weekend at all,” the Barça boss said in a press conference on Saturday which lasted just minutes.

“There are games between direct rivals, while others face teams doing well in the league. You could say it’s special, but sometimes you can drop points in the strangest of games so I don’t think it will be decisive.”

Barça played Atletico in the Copa del Rey semi-final earlier this month, progressing largely thanks to their 2-1 win at the Vicente Calderon.

Luis Enrique added: "Once again [we play] Atletico Madrid, who we have played many times and they will present same difficulties as in other games. I think it will be similar to Copa semi-final. It's one of the most important games for both teams [this season]."

The Barça coach was also happy to have had a free week for the first time this year to prepare for the game.

"[Playing twice a week] is a circumstance we have had to deal with since the beginning of the year," he said.

"It’s the end of February and this is first free week we have had, which shows the packed fixture list we have had, which does have its affects."
