Little left to be said as Messi and Ronaldo's remarkable Pichichi record continues

How can we quantify the battle between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in the Spanish league over the last six years? In goals, it's quite simple: 452 goals, five Pichichis and five Golden Boots, with the sixth of each likely to arrive at the end of the season.

The three final games of the La Liga season will not just decide where the title goes (Barcelona or Real Madrid), but also who will win the Pichichi. Messi has won three of the last five and Ronaldo has picked up two. This season, the Argentine has scored 40 league goals, while Ronaldo's hat-trick in Seville took him to 42.

And the winner of that award, once again, is likely to win the Golden Boot (Europe's top scorer). Antoine Griezmann (Atletico Madrid), with 22 goals, is third in both the race for the Pichichi and the Golden Boot.

Only Barcelona forward Luis Suarez has muscled in on the fight between Ronaldo and Messi in recent years, sharing the Golden Boot with the Portuguese star last season as both scored 31 goals in their respective leagues.

There's little more that can be said about Messi and Ronaldo's capacity for goals. For example, since Ronaldo came to Spain there have been 452 goals between the two in La Liga: 229 for Messi; 219 for Ronaldo. Beofre then, Leo had scored 54 goals in Spain's top flight and Ronaldo had scored 84 with Manchester United.

The best number of league goals in a season was Messi's 50 in 2010-11, while Ronaldo's best effort was 46 in the same campaign.
