Lionel Messi's targets for 2017 as chosen by Barcelona

FC Barcelona’s website lists 10 challenges for Lionel Messi in 2017. Here they are…

One: Reach his 500th goal for FC Barcelona

He has 476 goals in competitive games so just needs 24 more to do it.

Two: Reach 100 UCL goals

Messi currently has 93 in the Champions League so seven more would see him hit a century.

Three: Game 600

Messi has played 551 games for the club so provided he can stay fit he should hit 600 this year. 

Four: European dreams

Messi has won four editions of the Champions League (06, 09, 11, 15), so will be aiming to make it five in May.

Five: Top scorer

Messi has scored 476 goals for Barcelona. To become Europe’s top scorer of all-time for a single club, he needs to catch up to Gerd Muller’s 525 for Bayern Munich.

Six: Las Palmas calling

Messi has scored against every club in La Liga bar Las Palmas. He can do that on January 14 when they visit Camp Nou.

Seven: Overseas targets

Messi has scored 97 goals against foreign sides. He needs three more to get his century, with a chance coming up in the Champions League against PSG in February.

Eight: Early starts

Hugo Sanchez scored the opening goal in La Liga games 76 times, Messi is five behind him. Can opener. 

Nine: Victory milestone

Messi has won in 390 games for Barcelona, in 551 games. 10 more wins sees him hit 400.

Ten: Starting star

Messi has 484 starts for Barcelona, so 16 more times will see him make 500.
