Messi's goal against Depor in 2009 cemented a 5-0 win and gave Barca their 50th point

It was a record in the first half of a season, though they got 55 in 2012-13

Deportivo de la Coruna are one of the clubs Lionel Messi likes scoring against. He has 17 goals against the Galicians, with one of those coming in a 5-0 win for Pep Guardiola's side in 2009, while he also scored a hat-trick in a 5-4 win at the Riazor in 2012-13, as well as in the 8-0 win in 2015-16 under Luis Enrique.

The strike in the 2009 win earned Barcelona a record - he opened the scoring in that game, which they won to reach 50 points after the first half of the season, something no side had managed. The previous record was Real Madrid with 47 in 2007-08. Barcelona ended that first half of the season with 16 wins, two draws (Racing, Getafe) and one defeat (Numancia), 59 goals for, 13 against. It ended up being an unforgettable season in which they won the treble.

BEATEN

However, four years later, in the 2012-13 season, Tito Vilanova's side won 3-1 at Malaga to reach 55 points out of 57 possible in the first half. They only dropped two in the Camp Nou Clasico (2-2). Messi, obviously, also opened the scoring against Malaga.

THE OTHER SIDE OF THE COIN

Depor at times have been problematic. In the 2014-15 season Barcelona faced them on the final day with the league already won, looking to give the fans a happy farewell at Camp Nou, but Depor drew 2-2 after going two down, to keep themselves in the division. However Barcelona went on to win the treble that season too.

Also last season Depor beat Barcelona 2-1 at Riazor, when not even the Messi factor helped Barcelona out. Joselu opened the scoring, Suarrez equalised but Alex Bergantinos sent Depor ahead right away, allowing Madrid to gain two points on Barca.
