Lionel Messi's brace against Cordoba took him to 50 Barcelona goals for 2014

With two goals in Barcelona's win against Cordoba on Saturday, Lionel Messi took his tally to 15 goals in 16 la Liga games in the 2014/15 season, making him the second top scorer in the competition behind Cristiano Ronaldo, who has 25.

Messi has scored a total of 58 goals in the 66 matches he's played in 2014: 50 of those with Barca and eight with Argentina.

It means he ends the calendar year with a goal per game ratio of 0.9. And you can add to those numbers the 22 assists that Barca's No.10 has served up throughout the last 12 months.

He seems to have left behind the physical problems which hampered him in 2013. He's only missed on game in the league this calendar year, taking in part in 36 out of a possible 37 encounters for the Blaugrana in the Spanish top flight.

It's also worth pointing out that Messi's last four goals have all come from his right foot - which is his weaker foot. He's never previously scored so many consecutive goals with his right foot.
