The Barcelona forward had something hidden in his sock

He took it in the early stages of the first half of the game

It went almost unnoticed, but during the 10th minute of Barcelona's win over Olympiakos on Wednesday, Lionel Messi took something from his sock and put it in his mouth. Not even on television could you see what it was...

But shortly after, a journalist from Catalunya Ràdio, Ricard Torquemada, revealed the mystery. According to said journalist, what Leo took during the first half was a glucose tablet. And he added that he did so in that moment because "before the first 15 minutes of physical effort is when the muscles are most receptive."

The fact is that it's usual for athletes to take these types of tablets, given they aid performance. What is not clear is when's the best moment to take them, given some say it's more recommendable to take them after the warm up and before the game has started.
