Lionel Messi: I'd rather win trophies than break records

Lionel Messi is one of those players that prefers to talk on the pitch than the press. However, he spoke to Argentine newspaper El Grafico on a few topics.

One being the chance of overtaking Gabriel Batistuta as the Argentine national team's top scorer. Messi has 49 goals, the veteran forward notched 56.

However, he said he would rather win trophies than break records.

"I would rather win something with the national team, even if it was from an own goal. I'm not interested in the records, although they are there, but this doesn't make you win titles," he said.

Of Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi said: "There's never been anything other than respect [between us]. We are professionals that defend our sides and we're rivals in the game, but nothing more than that."
