Lionel Messi now has double the goals of the second top scorer

On Wednesday he scored a hat-trick to sink Pep Guardiola's Manchster City, his 37th of his career

Lionel Messi is a history man who is always smashing new records. He has written his name in letters of gold in Barcelona's history and keeps hitting higher heights. On Wednesday he scored a hat-trick to sink Pep Guardiola's Manchster City, his 37th of his career and 7th in the UCL.

His second goal was especially important. It was his 464th of his Barcelona career, literally double the tally of the club's second top scorer, Cesar Rodriguez (1942-55).

Cesar's record, set in the 50s was beaten by Messi on March 20, 2012, in a La Liga game against Granada in which he also scored a hat-trick. Four and a half years later, Leo has doubled the figure, scoring another 232 goals. Well, 233, because he has 465 in total now.

Since Messi made his debut in 2004 (16th of October) in a game against Espanyol he has played 541 games and scored 465 goals. Wow.
