Lionel Messi just one strike away from amazing 400 goal milestone

Lionel Messi scored his 399th career goal with a cheeky chip as Barcelona beat Levante 5-0.

The Argentine striker had already missed a penalty, uncharacteristically blazing it a long way wide of the post, but eventually found the net late on. 

He had set up two goals for his team-mates in a comfortable victory in Valencia. 

Messi assisted both of Barcelona's goals last weekend against Athletic and the winner from Gerard Pique on Wednesday night in the Champions League against Apoel Nicosia. 

It didn't look like he would get on the scoresheet himself today, but eventually did and now is tantalisingly close to reaching his milestone. 

With five more goals he will match Telmo Zarra's La Liga record of 251.
