Dembele was a target for Barça last summer but chose Dortmund

Sporting director Robert Fernandez is a fan and may go back in for him

Barcelona will make contact with Borussia Dortmund as they reactivate their interest in forward Ousmane Dembele, a player Robert Fernandez tried to sign last summer.

French newspaper L'Equipe explain that they have been able to confirm that Barça have renewed their interest in the French international, who has been spoken about in very positive terms in the last week by Samuel Umtiti and Eric Abidal.

L'Equipe quote the player's agent, Moussa Sissoko, who has tried yo take some of the pressure off the 20-year-old: "Ousmane is on holiday. I can't comment on all the information that appears about his future.

"We do know there are a number of big clubs interested in him, which is a form of recognition for his good performances."

This past season Dembele scored 10 goals and created a further 21 in 49 appearances for Dortmund, who he joined from Rennes last summer.

Barça also wanted to do a deal for him at that time, but it was the German side and the promise of regular football which saw them win his signature at a cost of 15 million euros.

Now Dortmund would demand much more for the young star, with a fee as high as 80 million euros suggested as their starting point for negotiations.
