Leonardo: Neymar is not mature enough to captain Brazil

Former player, and coach Leonardo Araujo was surprisingly critical of Neymar on an interview he gave to SportTV.

For the Brazilian one of the problems is that the team has given Neymar leadershsip of the team, but he considers the player too young and not mature enough to lead the dressing room.

"Neymar is a great player, but he doesn't have the maturity to lead the team and lift the side in his hand," he said about Brazil's captain, who took the armband after the 2014 World Cup.

However he did praise Neymar for improving his game a lot after arriving at Barcelona and becoming more of a team-player than he was at Santos.

"He was criticised a lot when he played in Brazil. He only wanted to have the ball and try to make the difference himself. Now he plays well without the ball. I didn't think he could do that, it's a question of mentality."

He also spoke about his set-piece improvement, saying: "Before he didn't take free-kicks, now he's a great specialist. There are many things that a player can get better at."
