Leo Messi on the trident and returning to action for Barcelona

Lionel Messi is back. The Argentine star was able to play 90 minutes against Roma in the Champions League, scoring two goals - and he could have scored many more.

After the game he spoke to TV3 in the mixed zone and explained his feelings about being back in action.

“I feel good. I’m taking things a step at a time, like you must after every injury,” the 28-year-old said.

“You need playing time to recover your fitness and build confidence.

“I have enjoyed watching the team from afar, but it’s much better to be playing! I was keen to get back and play myself.”

His relationship with Luis Suarez and Neymar was back in action to devastating effect against Roma.

Suarez, like Messi, scored two goals, although the Brazilian third wasn’t on target, missing a second half penalty which Messi allowed him to take.

“I don’t know if the fact we [the trident] get on so well is the key to the team working well, but it’s not just three of us, it’s a whole team," he added.

“There is a really good atmosphere, we try to be professionals, to enjoy ourselves and to get on day to day.

“That’s what’s important, that the group is united. We’re in good form, but there’s still a long way to go to the point when championships are defined.”
