Leo Messi on a double treble: "Nothing can be ruled out"

Lionel Messi spoke at the presentation of his agreement with mobile brand Huawei on Thursday and assured Barcelona fans that they will give their all for another treble: “Nothing can be ruled out, we depend on ourselves and all the time there are less games left.

“We are taking it game by game, step by step, winning and we are going to try and achieve everything.”

Messi insisted that both Barcelona and Argentina’s objectives are always to win everything. While Barça chase a second treble, the Albiceleste are looking to win the Copa America this summer: “We are going to fight for everything and that is what we are doing.

“The World Cup and the Copa America final defeats still hurt. We were close to becoming champions, but we missed out by a small margin.”

After beating Arsenal in the Champions League, Messi showed no preference as to who Luis Enrique’s side meet in the quarter-final. “Whoever we draw we will accept, there’s no rival you’d choose. What will be will be and it’s going to be really difficult whoever we draw,” he added.

Messi was also asked about the trident - which also features Luis Suarez and Neymar - but denied that Barça are dependent on the trio’s form and goalscoring abilities: “I don’t think we depend on the three forwards, it’s a really deep, good squad and there’s a lot more than just three players, we have impressive players. We help in attack and defence, but the team doesn’t depend on us.

“There are players in the dressing room who have won everything, but they maintain the same motivation. That’s the most positive thing: the desire to keep winning and the good atmosphere.

“There’s not just a good atmosphere among the trident, but across the whole dressing room. The humility that this dressing room is the base of the success.”
