Laporta: I would vote for Pique to become FC Barcelona president

The former Barça president has broken his silence to speak exclusively to SPORT about a number of topics

Former Barcelona president Joan Laporta, who was in charge of the club from 2003 until 2010, has given an exclusive interview to SPORT about everything going on at the Blaugrana.

Days before Barça’s AGM, which will take place on Saturday before the game against Granada, Laporta assured he has no intention of attending, something which would be in his right as a former president of the club.

Within the extensive interview which can be read in SPORT on Thursday, Laporta said that “Pique has all the qualities to be a great president. I would vote for him. He has a great personality, is a Cule, loves Barça, is brave…”

At the same time he recognised that he’d love to see a scenario where, as well as Pique, “Pep Guardiola would return as manager with Xavi [Hernandez] as his assistant.”

Laporta also spoke about a number of other things, such as the land at Can Rigalt, the off-the-field issues being faced by Lionel Messi and Neymar and many more issues.
