Laporta suggests Benedito and Freixa join him to fight against Bartomeu!

In a television debate on Friday evening, Joan Laporta surprisingly suggested Agusti Bendito and Toni Freixa join forces with him to take on Josep Maria Bartomeu.

Laporta made the comments during an appearance on 'El Punt Avui', along with Benedito and Freixa, who are among the four candidates to become the Barcelona's president at next week's elections.

"I think those that here -- all the candidates with the excpetion of Josep Maria Bartomeu -- could go together [in the elections]. If we do not want Snr. Bartomeu to be president, we have to join forces," Laporta said.

It's a proposal which, in principle, does not seem very realistic, keeping in mind that both Freixa and Benedito have re-iterated in recent days that they are not ready to make pacts with any other candidates.

As for Bartomeu, who is the big favourite in the polls for the July 18 elections, he reacted by saying he feels that it is better to have more candidates than less.

"I think that it is good for Barça that there is a higher number of proposals, of options. That would be better," he said at an electoral event in Sitges.
