Kevin Gameiro was one of the strikers that Barcelona had considered signing in the summer of 2016. They eventually bought Paco Alcacer after being turned down by the Frenchman, then of Sevilla, who signed for Atletico Madrid. In an interview with Le10Sport he explained the reasons he turned down Barcelona’s offer.
He said “this summer I had to pick between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid”. “What could I have done at Barcelona?” His point being that Messi, Neymar and Suarez were ahead of him in the pecking order.
In that sense he had a reference point—Zlatan Ibrahimovic. He recalled the problems that the Swede had. “There are players who want to play all the games, who don’t like just playing 10 minutes at the end. That is what happened with Ibra.”
