Josep Maria Bartomeu: "Andre Gomes is already a world star"

Andre Gomes, the new FC Barcelona signing, was accompanied by his whole family and his representatives on his first day at the club.

After passing his medical exam, the Portuguese midfielder greeted Barça president Josep Maria Bartomeu, and signed his contract in the club's offices that ties him to the Blaugrana for five seasons.

Once the paperwork was completed, Gomes and Bartomeu moved to the first tier of the Camp Nou to be photographed with the player's new shirt, and to provide brief comments to the press.

The president said: "Andre Gomes is a new Barcelona player, he is already a world star and we are very pleased that he has accepted this challenge to come and play at our club.

"Our technical secretary department has been following the player for a while. We want to welcome him to the Camp Nou, and above all to his family.

"His father is a Barça fan since childhood and so we are very happy to welcome him too. We are very happy to have them here with us."

For his part, Andre Gomes has stated that he "simply wants to thank Barcelona for this opportunity.
