Joan Laporta: Barcelona could have signed Cristiano Ronaldo

The former president claims that his side could have signed Cristiano Ronaldo for 17 million euros back when he was chief

Former Barcelona president Joan Laporta spoke at the Nacex Golf Challenge at El Prat, where both former Barcelona and Madrid players took part ahead of the Clasico this weekend.

The former Blaugrana chief told the media that he had the chance to sign Cristiano Ronaldo for the club for 17 million euros.

“We signed Ronaldinho, Marquez and Quaresma. He was at Sporting Lisbon, before he signed for Manchester United. We spoke with his agent who wanted to sell us Deco. We said that we could not because we could not afford it. But then he told us he had another goo player. It was Ronaldo. He had agreed to move to United for 19, but he was offered to us for 17.”

Laporta also spoke about Leo Messi’s future. “He will be one of those players who will be at Barcelona for life. That is what we want. We ask the kings for Messi to be renewed. The player needs to feel valued.”
