Jeremy Mathieu misses out on Euro 2016 through injury

Jeremy Mathieu will not be going to Euro 2016. The French defender featured in the Copa del Rey final for Barcelona but has not been able to get over a new calf injury since and eventually Didier Deschamps discarded him.

Mathieu has been replaced in the squad by Olympique Lyon star Samuel Umtiti. Barcelona's man dreamed of featuring at the tournament in his country, rushing back from a knee injury, but the problem with his calf has ruled him out.

There is trouble with France's defence - for various reasons Varane, Sakho, Zouma and Laporte are all out of contention. Mathieu can now start his holidays.
