Jeremy Mathieu has a muscle tear and will be out for three weeks

The French defender Jeremy Mathieu suffered a tear of his right hamstring against Sevilla on Sunday night.

The medical tests undertaken at the Barça training complex on Monday morning have concluded that the player should spend approximately three weeks on the sidelines.

The France international, who started at left-back in the Sanchez Pizjuan, had to be replaced in the 26th minute by Lucas Digne, after the player felt some muscular soreness.

During the first official minutes of the new season, the player felt a sharp pain in his right leg.

The footballer sat on the turf immediately and asked the bench for medical assistance.

The medical tests have confirmed that a tear exists, so the player will be out of contention for three weeks.

He will certainly miss the second-leg of the Super Cup tie against Sevilla at the Camp Nou on Wednesday, as well as the first two league matchdays, against Betis and Athletic Bilbao.

However, the subsequent international break on the weekend of September 3 and 4, will benefit his recovery in time for the third league game, against Alaves.
