Javier Mascherano gets 12 months in prison... but won't go

Javier Mascherano can finally forget his problems with the government's tax branch. According to Cadena SER the Barcelona defender reached an agreement which will see Mascherano paying a €816,000 fine.

He has also been given 12 months in prison (four for the first offence and eight for the second), but will not serve any time, as is usually the case in Spain for spells under two years for non-violent crimes.

The tax avoidance offences were commited by Mascherano in 2011 and 2012 and the player repaid the debt in full (€1.6m), on top of the fine for what he had done.
