Iniesta forced out of Spain squad with knock

Andres Iniesta will not take part in Spain's two upcoming international matches due to injury.

La Roja face France in a friendly on Thursday before kicking off their European Championships' qualifying campaign four days later against Macedonia.

The Barça midfielder, however, will not be involved due to an injury in his left knee which he suffered in the la Liga opener against Elche.

Iniesta will meet up with Spain's medical team on Tuesday - with Barça's medical staff also expected to be present - but he will be able to take part in the games.

Instead, Vicente del Bosque will call up a replacement, with Juan Mata expected to be his choice.

After the disappointing elimination from the World Cup this summer, Del Bosque's squad has a feel of a fresh start about it with eight faces involved who didn't travel to Brazil.

Espanyol goalkeeper Kiko Casilla and Barça defender Marc Barta are among the new boys. Dani Carvajal, Mikel San Jose, Ander Iturraspe Raul Garcia, Isco and Paco Alcacer are the other six.
