Illarramendi complains that Lionel Messi was not sent off at Anoeta

The midfielder wanted the Barcelona star to be shown a second yellow card

It seems strange, but it happened. Anoeta and the Real Sociedad players asked for Lionel Messi to be sent off on two occasions.

Midfielder Asier Illarramendi spoke about it after the game and in respect of the Argentine, who had already been booked, he said: "Messi... that's always been a yellow card offense. But whatever, we have to pick ourselves up."

The Basque player was referring to a moment when Messi stopped him from taking a quick free kick. Illarramendi asked for a second booking but Gonzalez Gonzales didn't see it the same way as him.

It produced a lot of discontent with the home supporters, who turned on the referee.

Illarramendi then tweeted: "Once again the same as always! Once again..."

And he also said "the offside against Zurutuza is not offside" in regards to another second half decision.

On the game, he added: It wasn't to be, but we played well, with intensity.

"They've not forced us back and we've played well without the ball. In the end it's been decided by a penalty, but we won't give up."
