How Jose Mourinho has persuaded Pedro to consider leaving Barcelona

Decision making at Chelsea has been left in the hands of Jose Mourinho. The make up of the first team depends on his decisions and it is completely up to him who comes and goes. One of his jobs, therefore, is to persuade players to join the club, as is the case with Pedro Rodriguez.

Mourinho contacted the player and said "with me you will be important," which is different to his current situation at Barça, where he is in the shadows. Chelsea depended on Diego Costa last season, but when he got injured they lacked goals. Pedro would add goals, but also energy to the Premier League champions.

The words of Mourinho were persuasive and have forced Pedro to think about leaving Barça. One of the things the Chelsea boss pointed out was that his integration into the team would be easy. Pedro would join up with a group of players who already speak Spanish. As well as Cesc Fabregas, Azpilicueta and Diego Costa, who he knows from the Spanish national team, there are also others, such as Filipe Luis, Thiabaut Courtois, Falcao and Cuadrado who speak Castellano. Mourinho could give orders in Spanish while Pedro learns English.

Pedro would therefore enter an environment he would feel comfortable in. He would arrive at Chelsea with a great reputation and he would have his place in the side almost guaranteed. He's always been highly rated outside of Spain, as shown by Arsenal and Liverpool's interest. The difference with Chelsea's bid, though, is that Mourinho has personally called him. Neither Arsene Wenger nor Brendan Rodgers did.

The player has been thinking about Chelsea's offer ever since he first heard Mourinho's words.

Another reason he's thinking about leaving, something which Mourinho pointed out to him, is that next summer there is the small matter of the European Championships in France. Pedro's presence on Vicente del Bosque's list is more likely if he is playing regular football. He has had a lack of minutes with Barça and Mourinho ensures him that would not be the case in London.

The Portuguese coach's arguments have excited Pedro and his departure could now become a reality in the coming weeks. Mourinho will instruct Chelsea to contact Barça and to pay the player's release clause once the electoral process has been completed.

After renewing until 2019, signing the terms before the Champions League final, Pedro's clause dropped to 30 million euros, although the club did not reveal this at the time. This amount makes Pedro one of the most interesting players on the market.

This week, when Pedro returns to training on Wednesday, Luis Enrique will try to talk him into staying. The Asturian managed to make sure Marc Bartra stayed, but it may be tougher to convince the Canary Islander.
