How Barcelona's set-piece laboratory has yielded a huge number of goals

Barcelona have become very strong in the set-piece area. 34 of their 143 goals have come from penalties, free-kicks, corners or even throw-ins.

1. 14 penalties

Never have Barcelona had so many penalties given in their favour (21), althoguh that's thanks to the attacking trident. Neymar's won 7, Messi 5, Munir 3, Suarez 2, Sergio Busquets 1, plus three hand-balls.

However, there have been a huge number of misses - nine. Four from Neymar, three Messi, two Suarez. Is it logical for Luis Enrique to see if another footballer - a specialist like Rakitic - should take them?

The scorers have been Neymar 5 (one to the left of the keeper, three to the right and one Panenka), Messi (two left, one right and one Panenka) and Suarez (two to the right of the goalkeeper). There was also the passed penalry, where Messi passed the ball to Suarez to score.

2. 10 free kick goals

Both Neymar and Messi are experts. None of the goals have come from a planned move, but from direct attempts. Messi has six goals from free-kicks this season. Analysis of the free kicks shows five went over the wall and one was low, round it to the left. Why don't the goalkeepers cover the other side better? It doesn't matter. If they go one way, Messi will score the other side.

Neymar has also scored one. But there have been three more - efforts from Messi which were saved or blocked but finished at the second attempt - once by Pedro in the European Super Cup against Sevilla, one by Messi himself and one by Rakitic.

3. 9 goals from corners

The blackboard of Unzue has been crucial. Barcelona have been poor at capitalising on these set-plays until recently. But still, they don't score in the classic way - heading home. They need something more.

Against Getafe in March, Arda Turan scored a semi-overhead kick after a flick on by Munir and another by Gerard Pique, the most spectacular of the goals.

Barcelona's corners are usually designed by Messi and Neymar, with Iniesta always waiting on the edge of the box. They decide what will happen, while the players in the box are creating space and dragging defenders aside. Generation of space is crucial in an area where there are no spaces. But with Messi, Neymar and Iniesta, nothing is impossible. A parallel or perpendicular pass, or ball to Alves at the back, are all good options.

The best converter is Gerard Pique, who has scored four goals. Vermaelen, Suarez, Rakitic and Munir have also netted.

4. 1 goal from a throw in

Even this goal had a trick, against Granada at Camp Nou. With the ball close to the corner flag, the team prepared for it as such. Neymar received it from Alba, playing a pass with Sergi Roberto - Iniesta was not playing this day - from there Neymar shot; it was saved but Messi was quickest to the rebound.
