Guardiola: I still think Barcelona are the best team in Europe

Atletico Madrid against Bayern Munich. The draw for the Champions League semi-final has set up a clash between the teams managed by Pep Guardiola and Diego Simeone, who out did Barcelona in the last eight. It's a tie that the Catalan coach analysed in a press conference on Friday, where he maintained that the Blaugrana are still the best team in Europe despite being knocked out.

"Barcelona are still the best because of the titles they have won in recent years, their style of play and the options they have in attack... but Atletico have been able to put the brakes on them because they know how to play against Barcelona. Their players know perfectly what they have to do," Guardiola argued, although he insisted that his ex-team are still the best: "I still think Barça are the best team in Europe. This can happen over one or two games. Luis Enrique has nearly always beaten Diego Simeone, but in a two-legged tie, anything can happen."

It wasn't the only time Guardiola made reference to Barça. With the elimination of Paris Saint-Germain and the Azulgrana, Bayern Munich are the only team left who can still win the treble this season. To achieve so, they would need to do well in the 10 games they potentially have left - five in the Bundesliga, two in the cup and three in the Champions League - but Pep is aware there's still a long way to go. "In the Bundesliga we have five games and two more wins will win the league, which is my dream for the season. Barça have lost two games in almost no time, though, which is a big lesson for us. What's important is to play thinking that we are still not champions," he concluded.
