Grimaldo turned down Levante loan because he wants to leave for free

Barcelona offered Alejandro Grimaldo the chance to go on loan to Levante this season — and they would even have been willing to talk about a transfer. However, the 20-year-old preferred to stay with Barça B as he has one year left on his deal. Therefore, he may be able to secure a better deal for himself next summer.

Sporting director Robert Fernandez spoke with Grimaldo in a bid to find a solution. The club’s plan was for the left-back to get minutes in the Primera Division (as is the case with Alen Halilovic at Sporting Dijon) to continue his profession as a player.

Grimaldi rejected this option and decided to continue in Segunda B with the second team, knowing that he can leave for free next summer and personally take control of his future. The full-back already has an offer from a Portuguese club. Barça accept his decision, but don’t understand his problem with Luis Enrique.
