Giuly remembers the first time he saw Messi 'kill' his team-mates

French winger Ludovic Giuly spent three seasons at FC Barcelona and was key to the club's second Champions League success, which came in 2006 under Frank Rijkaard.

Giuly remembers once international break during his time at Camp Nou when a group of youngsters made up the numbers in a first team session as many players were away with their national sides.

Rijkaard was taking a training session at the Mini Estadi (because the Ciudad Esportiva move had not taken place by then) with various players, including Lionel Messi, in training.

"Messi was only 16, but he destroyed us all in a training session," Giuly explains.

"They were kicking him all over the place to avoid being ridiculed by this kid, but he didn't say anything. He just got up and kept on playing.

"Every play he made was dangerous. It was incredible. He would dribble past four players and score a goal.

"Even the team's starting centre-backs were nervous. They would go in hard on him, but he took it in. He was an alien. He killed us all."
