The defender has strained a ligament in his right knee

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has strained ligaments in his right knee and may miss the cup game against Valencia on Thursday. He suffered the injury after being hit with a fierce tackle by Gerard Moreno, in the 1-1 draw at Epsanyol.

Barcelona's medical tests confirmed he had a knee injury but the problem is not as bad as first feared, Catalunya Radio report.

Pique, say the same source, wants to force his presence in the Copa del Rey second leg semi at Mestalla despite the injury, but the medics want to be more cautious. They want him to rest and miss the game, as well as the league match against Getafe on the weekend - but he will be safely back by the Chelsea Champions League game.

Yerry Mina could benefit if Pique is out and make his Barcelona debut.
