Gerard Pique, FC Barcelona defender, suffered a thigh injury and was substituted against Athletic Bilbao at half-time in his club’s 3-0 win on Saturday.
Javier Mascherano replaced him and although some speculated it was because he was booked in the first half in a match which was tough for him, it soon came to light he was taken off as a precaution.
Barcelona published a statement reading: “Gerard Pique suffered an overload in the adductor of his left leg. The change was made for precaution.”
They will now be hoping that he is fit to face Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey on Tuesday night.
