Gerard Pique: I've spoken to Lionel Messi. I think he'll be fit to face Celta Vigo

Gerard Pique does not seem too worried about Lionel Messi's injury and is confident the Argentine will be fit for the weekend.

Barcelona travel to Balaidos to face Celta Vigo and Pique believes the Barça No 10 will be with the team.

"I have spoken to him and I am optimistic. I think he could be ready, but it all depends on how he feels," said the centre-back.

Pique did not hide away from the fact that his game has improved but did not state whether he is back among the best players in his position.

"I feel good and confident, I feel fast and I am helping the team. The results, if they are good, always help to raise your individual level. But without titles, how I feel now will not help."

Pique is looking forward to the weeks ahead, saying: "Now, in April, this is the most important time, with very tough games, like the quarter-finals of the Champions League."

The team is excited but Pique says they know "that last year we were in the same situation and we have this experience. We work to improve on what happened last year."

Pique also says that he hopes Dani Alves gets a contract extension at Barcelona.

"I would like to be with Dani Alves for many years," he said. "I am not the one who takes decisions, but as a team-mate I can tell you that in these years Dani has been one of the best, if not the best right back in Barça history."

Copa del Rey final

"I don't understand why teams don't let their stadiums be used for the Copa del Rey final. We wanted to play in the Bernabeu because it was a neutral stadium and very big, but in the Camp Nou we can have a great final too," said Pique.

Lastly, Pique lamented the idea that Xavi Hernandez will leave Barcelona at the end of the season. "He represents everything. He represents our style and the philosophy of la Masia."

However, he noted that when the great players go "it seems like the world will end, but life continues".
