Barcelona will kick off their La Liga campaign by paying tribute to the victims

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique joined the numerous people in showing their appreciation to the Mossos d'Esquadra (a Catalan police force) for their exceptional work this week following the terrorist attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils.

Several public figures have shown their gratitude to the work of the Mossos and Pique was keen to add his name to the list after what has been a tough few days in Catalonia.

On his Twitter account, the centre-back wrote: Thanks @Mossos for the way in which you've handled these difficult days. A pleasure to have you close by."

The words were accompanied by a video in which you can see some members of the Mossos receiving a spontaneous homage from citizens on the streets of Barcelona.

Barcelona will pay tribute to the victims of the attacks by having a minute's silence before Sunday's La Liga opener against Real Betis at Camp Nou, a game which will see increased security.

The players will wear black armbands and will have the words 'Tots Som Barcelona' (We are all Barcelona) on the front of their shirts and the words 'Barcelona' on the back where their surnames would usually be.
