Gerard Pique and Shakira celebrate birth of second child Sasha

Gerard Pique and Shakira have released a statement confirming the news that they have become parents for the second time.

"We are happy to announce the birth of Sasha Pique Mebarak, son of Shakira Mebarak and Gerard Pique, born January 29 at 9:54pm, in Barcelona," it read.

"The name Sasha is of Greek and Russian descent and means 'defender of mankind' and 'warrior.' Both mother and child are in excellent health." 

In the meantime, former Barcelona director and grandfather of Gerard Pique, Amador Bernabeu, has already signed his great granddaughter up as a socio of FC Barcelona. 

Speaking to Rac1, Bernabeu was a very happy man, although he is yet to see Pique and Shakira's newborn.

"From the information I have received, everything is going well," he said. "The mother is doing perfectly and the little girl as well. She's blonde and looks like Gerard." 

Bernabeu added that he plans to visit the newest family member as soon as possible.
