Gerard Pique and Sergi Roberto miss out on Barcelona's squad to face Alaves, with Aleix Vidal and Samuel Umtiti likely to deputise for them in the team.
Asturian coach Luis Enrique has started his squad rotation to try and keep his stars fit and fresh for the long season ahead, including a spell of seven games in 23 days, of which this is the first.
Luis Suarez is also expected to start the game on the bench after returning late from international duty with Uruguay.
