Gameiro reveals why he rejected Barcelona for Atletico Madrid
The French forward opted to move to the Spanish captial this summer when he left Sevilla
Kevin Gameiro has revealed he was close to signing for Barcelona this summer before he joined Atletico Madrid.
In an interview with Cadena COPE, the forward explained why he decided to snub the offer from Barça in favour of Atletico.
"There was the possibility of going to Barcelona, but in my head it was clear I wanted to go to Atletico. When Atletico contacted me, it was clear,” he said.
“You know that when you have players like Messi, Suarez and Neymar in your team, they want to play all the time and always for 90 minutes.
“Therefore it’s very difficult to play and I think that Atletico’s style is better for my qualities.
"Cholo [Diego Simeone] phoned me and told me he wanted Diego Costa, but it was very difficult and I was the other option.
“It didn’t annoy me, it’s something which happens in football. I prefer that people are clear with me. Now I'm in Madrid and that's the main thing."
