Franz Beckenbauer: "Lionel Messi is a divine player, god-like; Barça are reliant on him"
Franz Beckenbauer has described Lionel Messi as "God-like" in an interview with Sky 90 looking ahead to the Champions League match between Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
The former Bayern and Germany defender said that Barça's progression will depend on the little Argentine.
“He is a divine player, god-like," Beckenbauer gushed when he was asked about Barcelona's No.10.
"Barça’s hopes are reliant on him.”
Beckenbauer has witnessed Pep Guardiola's work at Bayern first hand and he says Guardiola's experience and knowledge of Barça could prove key.
“Guardiola knows the ins and outs of Barcelona, even the smallest of details," the 69-year-old added.
"And that could prove enough to put Bayern on their way.”
Bayern are due in Catalonia for the first leg of the Champions League last four tie next week, with the return leg in Munich the week after.
