The Barcelona defender's brilliant performances see his reputation soar

'Sam' was considered the best on show in the French side against Germany

Samuel Umtiti's fine form continues. The Barcelona defender, who is having a great season with his club, is also being heavily praised for his fine performances for the French national side. He is taking gigantic steps forward when not even 18 months ago he was breaking into Didier Deschamps' side.

In the friendly draw with Germany (2-2), Umtiti was chosen by L'Equipe was the man of the match for France. They gave him an 8 out of 10, calling him the Colossus of Cologne, where the game was played.

Umtiti formed a partnership with Real Madrid's Raphael Varane and was "impressive during the whole game and very alert to cut out Germany's through balls, confirming his excellent 2017".

He has now played 14 games for France. He entered the side in the quarter-finals of Euro 2016 and has not left since, bit by bit implanting his personality and winning character. In fact, Umtiti has been a big reason why they have only let in two goals in their last seven games.

"Big Sam" as he's known by his pals, keeps growing and Barcelona should get to tying him down with a new contract and a release clause that is higher than the 60m euros tag he currently has.
