Euro 2016: How did Barça players do in first round of games?

Barcelona's players will close the first round of fixtures at the European Championships with a positive balance in general, although two players are at different ends of the scale. Gerard Pique was formidable (Spain's hero), while Arda Turan is in crisis, a long way from his best level, with Turkey.

SPORT take a look at Barça's eight representatives in France:

PIQUE, A TWISTED SCRIPT

The player most jeered by Spain fans in recent months handed La Roja a last gasp victory against Czech Republic in Toulouse. Pique produced an impressive performance and scored his first goal at a finals with a header from a magnificent Andres Iniesta assist.

His celebration suggested he's annoyed at the treatment he's received in recent times. He looked at the crowd defiantly, defending his role in the team. After the game he wanted to forget about old wounds: "I suppose it's not necessary to say anything else... We are a magnicifenct team! A great day for everyone."

INIESTA, SPAIN'S MAP

His normal self when he pulls on the red shirt. Iniesta was at the middle of everything Spain did. He was the centre of operations, he kept everything simple, his control was perfect, he dribbled well... Simply Don Andres. He created the winning goal for Pique and led the way for his team-mates.

BUSQUETS, DISCREET RELIABILITY

Essential for Vicente Del Bosque. A fixed member of a team marked by La Masia. Busquets, Cesc Fabregas and Iniesta (with Thiago coming on) formed Spain's midfield.

Formely part of a double pivot, Busquets now sits behind two midfielders. Against Czech Republic he performed his role well. He was reliable when it came to keeping the ball and serene with his passing.

ALBA, NO DEBATES

As expected he was named in the team and was regularly involved in Spain's attacks. No-one doubts his place in the side, where he linked well well with Iniesta and Nolito - a left-flank with a Barça flavour. Alba doesn't have any real competition for his place.

WAITING FOR ARDA He was singled out after Turkey lost to Croatia. And Arda himself apologised for his performance, while his coach admitted he expected more from the Barcelona midfielder.

As ocurred this season with Barça, Turan was slow on the ball and lacked continuity in his play. Turkey are hoping for much more from their star in the coming games after a disappointing start.

RAKITIC, THE PERFECT COMPLEMENT TO MODRIC

Midfielders have been the stars of Euro 2016 so far. Croatia have two who mark the rhythm of the team: Ivan Rakitic and Luka Modric.

Barça's Rakitic demonstrated in the win over Turkey that he is the ideal complement to Modric, who is Croatia's most imaginative player. The Real Madrid man has more freedom with his national team and takes on a role more like Iniesta. Rakitic, for his part, links well with him and is key to his country's play.

VERMAELEN, MIXED FEELINGS

Despite suffering muscle problems in the build up to the tournament, he was able to start Belgium's opening game against Italy. He played alongside Toby Alderweireld in the middle of the back four and completed 90 minutes, but Italy won the game 2-0.

The absences of Lombaerts and Kompany have made the Barça centre-back an essential part of a team tipped to do well, but they have not got off to a good start.

TER STEGEN, NEUER'S SHADOW

In Germany no-one is debating Manuel Neuer's hold on the No.1 shirt. Joachim Low's side beat Urkaine 2-0 to take their place at the top of Group C. As for Marc-Andre ter Stegen, his role is clear: if Neuer's not injured or suspended, he will be a specatator for the rest of the tournament.
