The Portuguese right-back played at a very high level for the 90 minutes

He anulled Joaquin's threat and offered plenty going forward

Ernesto Valverde backed Nelson Semedo by picking him to start over Aleix Vidal against Real Betis. Vidal began the Spanish Super Cup clash against Madrid at Camp Nou, while Sergi Roberto featured there in the second leg. But for the start to La Liga, Semedo was given the nod.

Signed this summer for 30m euros, the Portuguese showed why he has that price tag with a good first 45 minutes. Bit by bit he acquired confidence and got into the game, partipating in good attacking moves.

On his league debut he tangled with one of the competition's veterans, Joaquin. Semedo did well in defence and more or less left the winger without much involvement.

Semedo was part of a back-line of Mascherano, Umtiti and Alba, and was alert to help out both at the back and going forward. In the 76th minute he nearly set up a good goal for Alcacer but his cross was just kept out.
