Eric Abidal set to leave Olympiakos to take on new role with Barcelona

One of the most loved people in Barcelonismo will return soon.

Eric Abidal has decided to hang up his boots in December and he plans to take on new professional challenges.

And here is where Barcelona once again enter onto the scene.

The club made an offer to the player to return to the club as a director of the escuelas and the offer still stands.

Abidal, who is currently playing in Greece with Olympiakos, has indicated that he wishes to leave the club at the end of the year.

He isn't enjoying his experience there.

The low level of competition in the league, coupled with his age, is hindering his passion.

For that reason, he's decided to cut his stay short.

If the club qualify for the next stage of the Champions League, he may change his mind, although that is the only scenario which would force a re-think.

Abidal, who is 35 now, is not on the look for another team, either.

After the disappointment of the way things finished with Monaco he is ready to pursue other challenges after a brief stay in Greece.

His family have already started to move to Barcelona.

His wife, Hayet, and two of his three children are already back living in Catalonia.

The new role will involve plenty of travel, but Abidal is ready to take it on and his professionalism will be a huge asset to the club once again.
