Eight records that Lionel Messi is still looking to beat

The Barcelona forward has a lot of milestones met and records smashed already

However there are still some which he is working towards in the coming years

Lionel Messi reached his 600th game with Barcelona on Saturday as they beat Sevilla 2-1 in La Liga. He has broken a lot of records already, but here are eight which he's still trying to beat...

Top goalscorer in the Champions League: Currently it's Cristiano Ronaldo with 110 goals. Messi has 97. However he is two years younger than Ronaldo so he could still beat his Madrid rival.

The player with the most trophies in football history: Messi has 30, the same as Gerard Pique. Ahead of him are Ryan Giggs 36 (Man United), Vitor Baia 35, (Porto and Barca among other sides), Andres Iniesta 32, (Barca) and Gary Neville (Man United), Dani Alves (PSG, ex Barca), 31 each.

The player with the most European Cups: Madrid's Paco Gento 6, Di Stefano, Jose Maria Zarraga (both Madrid) and Paolo Maldini (AC Milan) all on 5, while Messi, Ronaldo, Iniesta and Pique all have 4 each.

The player with the most European titles: Dani Alves, Paulo Maldini and Arie Haan (Ajax) have 9 each. For now Messi has 7, 4 Champions Leagues and 3 European Super Cups. The same as Pique, Iniesta and Cristiano.

Top goalscorer for one club: Messi has 523 goals in 600 games, next to Gerd Muller (525 goals in 563 games for Bayern). The record in European football is Josef Bican, who between 1937 and 1948 scored 534 goals in 274 games with Slavia Prague. Pele at Santos got 643 in 659 games between 1956 and 1974.

Player with most Barcelona appearances: The record is Xavi Hernandez on 767 games. Followed by Iniesta 642 and Messi, 600.

Player with the most wins in Spain: Iker Casillas has the record with 334 wins for Real Madrid before signing for Porto. Andoni Zubizarreta (Athletic, Barcelona, Valencia) finished on 333. Raul Gonzalez 327, Xavi 322 and Madrid's Manolo Sanchis 312 are ahead of Messi, who has 298 victories in La Liga.

Player with most golden boots: Leo Messi (2009/10, 2011/12, 2012/13 and 2016/17) and Cristiano Ronaldo (2007/08, 2010/11, 2013/14 and 2014/15)  are fighting it out. This season Messi has 12 goals already in La Liga, Ronaldo just one.

Player with most Ballon d'Ors: It's another Ronaldo vs Messi battle. Barcelona's star has won it five times: 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2015, while Madrid star Cristiano has won it four, in 2008, 2013, 2014 and 2016, and is favourite to do so again in 2017 despite his lamentable form.
