Eight questions about Barcelona and their penalties

Eight questions about Barcelona and their penalties

1. Who decides who should take the penalties?

Lionel Messi is in charge of taking the penalties. And it's his decision to delegate them if he doesn't want to.

2. Why Messi?

Because he's the best. Beyond accuracy statistics, Messi is the No 1 and deserves to have the power to decide who will take them.

3. Should Luis Enrique make the decisions?

The coach says he's not worried about the penalty taking at all. And this signifies that it's something out of his reach, uncontrollable. It's an area of freedom for the players to decide, and it should continue this way.

4. Do they practice penalties in training?

They do, but not in order to be prepared for knock-out ties which reach this stage, or as an exercise, but as a bet. That's how ideas come about like the Celta penalty.

5. Should someone take more penalties?

Taking into account the accuracy rates of those who have tried so far, logic indicates thinking about Iniesta or Rakitic stepping up. However, this option could create unnecessary conflict.

6. Should Mascherano have a go?

He's the only player who hasn't scored a goal in the current squad (bar the very recent signings), something that could be resolved in this way. However, this would only happen if the score was heavily in Barcelona's favour - and could still be looked upon badly.

7. Are they ready for a difficult situation?

It doesn't seem like it. Messi missed a penalty against Chelsea which could have taken Barcelona to the Champions League final.

8. Why are Barcelona getting so many penalties?

Suarez is the reason. With a false nine, Barcelona didn't spend so much time in the box. Now the team lives there. And they add up.
