Douglas moves closer to Benfica switch

Barcelona defender Douglas Pereira is close to his move to Benfica, per Portuguese newspaper A Bola, after a meeting between his representatives and Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira in Lisbon on Friday.

Although the deal is not yet sealed 100 per cent with Benfica, a meeting late on Friday between the player and Barcelona could seal it. The Brazilian understands Ernesto Valverde doesn't need him at Barcelona, and has conditioned his exit to move to Benfica, not just accepting any old proposal thought up by Barcelona.

Benfica would benefit by taking him to replace Nelson Semedo, who was sold to Barcelona. Douglas was loaned to Sporting Gijon last season.
