The right-back left Barcelona for Portugal in the summer

Minutes have been hard to come by at Benfica and he could come back

Benfica are ready to get rid of Douglas, the Brazilian right-back on loan from Barcelona. As revealed by SPORT, the Lisbon-based side are not willing to play the player so they don’t have to pay a single euro to Barça. According to O Jogo, the Portuguese club are not planning to take up their option to sign him in the summer. He’s hardly been used by coach Rui Vitoria.

Douglas’ future is a mystery. Without minutes in Catalona, he had to pack his bags and try his luck with Benfica, a big club but not at the level of Barça. But even there, he’s not been able to earn his place in the team. He has played just four games this season, a total of 360 minutes and has still not made his debut in the Portuguese league.

Meanwhile, Benfica have already planned to move for Gino Peruzzi, according to reports in Portugal, to take Douglas’ place in the squad. The Lisbon side are ready to send Douglas back to Barcelona in January, an option which exists in the deal between the two clubs.
